Biography

About Nature and Wildlife Photographer, Debby Stubbs: I am a native of Brunswick, Maine and became interested in photography as a hobby back in 1973 when I got my first SLR camera a few years after graduating from high school. Starting with nature, scenic and family pictures, I found a real passion in birding and bird photography. I became intrigued with digital photography and converted in the 1990s and started printing my own images. Years and quite a few cameras later, I finally took the plunge and started my photography business in 2005 to keep myself busy after my husband passed away. Most of my work is focused on Maine wildlife, an endless variety of beautiful Maine scenery, flowers, nature, and I specialize in birds and thoroughly enjoy sharing my view of our natural world with others. A Florida catalog of my images is also available; photos taken during my escape from cold, snowy Maine winters. In all, I offer over 1,300 photos to choose from, a portion of which are featured on my website at www.debbysmainephotos.com.

I am a member of two art clubs, the Merry-Meeting Art Assn. and the Kennebec Art Assn. and exhibit and sell my work at various art shows and restaurants here in Maine. North Light Art Gallery in Millinocket, Maine carries my photography. My products are also available at Lisa-Marie's Made-in-Maine Gift Shop on Front St., in Bath, Maine. My first published photo of a flying squirrel was the inside back cover in the Jan.-Feb. 2006 issue of 'Up North, The Moosehead Magazine'. The magazine has used many more of my bird and wildlife photos over the past several years and my 3rd place 2008 annual contest winning pair of pileated woodpeckers [no f25] was printed full page in the Mar./Apr. 2008 issue. A feature story on me and my photography was also in the Jan.-Feb. 2009 issue of 'Up North'. My first magazine cover of a cow and calf moose [no 34] was published in their May/June 2008 issue and my second cover photo was of fighting osprey [no f32] in the Mar.-Apr. 2009 issue - which was the first prize winner of their 2009 Annual Photo Contest [and featured in the Port Clyde Upstairs Store Art Gallery in Port Clyde, Maine]. 'Birds & Bloom' magazine also published three of my bird images in 2007. My latest cover was in the Nov.-Deb. 2009 issue of Up North of a snow-covered wreath and gate [no 248b]. In the Jan./Feb. 2010 issue of Up North some of my winter scenic pictures are printed in the 4 page centerfold spread.

Honorable Mention winner of the 2010 Up North Magazine Annual Photography Contest with one of my young raccoon pictures. Third place winner of the Pasco County Audubon 2010 Natural Florida Photo Contest in the Native Florida Wading Birds category with my no. f131 Sparring Tri-Colored Heron and Snowy Egrets.
